Upcoming Production: The Shadow of a Gunman by Sean O'Casey

It is 1920. Donal Davoren is a poet who has come to room with Seamus Shields in a poor, Dublin tenement slum. Many of the residents of the tenement mistake Donal for an IRA volunteer (gunman on the run). Donal does not refute this notoriety, especially when it wins him the affection of Minnie Powell, an attractive young woman in the tenement. Meanwhile, Seamus' business partner, Mr Maguire hides a bag full of bombs in Seamus' apartment before participating in an ambush in which he is killed. The city is put under curfew as a result of the ambush, and Donal and Seamus do not discover the grenades until the British army arrives at the tenement.

Toronto's only Irish community theatre group!

For more than 40 years the Players have been bringing the best in Irish theatre to Toronto. We present two shows a year, always by Irish playwrights, one in Spring and another in Fall. For those of you of interested in taking and active role in the group, we have events throughout the year such as play-readings and the odd get-together in the pub or BBQ so it is always a good time to join and everyone is welcome regardless of level of experience. If you just wish to hear about upcoming plays join our mailing list and we'll be in touch!

The Toronto Irish Players (TIP) was founded by a group of new Irish immigrants in 1975 and is Toronto's only Irish community theatre group. Over the last 40 years we have produced more than 60 plays, connecting Toronto's Irish community and sharing Irish heritage with Toronto audiences by presenting classic and modern works from Irish playwrights.

TIP has been recognized with numerous awards at the Association of Community Theatres of Central Ontario (ACTCO) Theatre Festival, Theatre Ontario Festival and the Acting Irish International Theatre Festival.
